Dear West Texas,
I owe you an apology. Sometimes I make fun of you, I've even called you desolate and isolated on occasion. I thought you were barren, flat and the epitome of ugly. I've been told that you're beautiful, and I refused to give you the benefit of my doubt.
I will admit I love your clean air and your general lack of traffic. I have enjoyed your cheap jalapenos and the (mostly) nice people that come with you.
It took me until Friday to really see your beauty. I've seen it in bits and pieces over the last few years, but compared to the overwhelming beauty of my last place of residence I overlooked your modest beauty. However, on my drive to Lubbock last Friday I really saw what everyone had been talking about. The wide open blue skies, the cotton, maze and grass fields, the windmills and pump jacks, the 80° weather in January, the 20 mph dust storms...ok, forget that last one...
So please, accept my apology for not seeing how beautiful you really are. I'm glad we had our little bonding moments captured forever so I'll never forget. Thank you for showing me who you really are.
Sincerely,
Brooke

Made that drive today and turned off the DVD player so the kids could look at the gorgeous sky. Then we spent the rest of the drive identifying cloud shapes and...talking. Crazy, huh.
I have to say I am really missing the open blue sky and weather (minus the wind). I don't remember inversions growing up but man they are horrible!
Glad you could find some beauty!
It probably took my five years before I was able to appreciate the beauty of a pumpjack silouetted against a West Texas sunset. Then I realized that this place really does have it's own beauty! (There's also a beauty in knowing that in a round about way, those pumpjacks pay my bills! :)
Loved the pictures! You are getting good! When we first moved to Texas that big open sky scared me and made me feel like I was going to float off the face of the earth. Now I love it and would trade it any day over winter inversions in Utah.
Love it!
Clever post & so much fun to read! You are an amazing photographer...are you enjoying the camera?? I think I really want to visit Lubbock now.:)
