Spelling bees are a completely different animal in Texas. They're not set up any differently, in fact they are run completely identically to every other one around the country. But having just attended my first Texas spelling bee I know realize we DO have accents here.
In fact, with our accents some words are down right hard to pronounce. And bless the kids hearts that have to spell those words (I wish I could remember them).
Lincoln made it past more than half of the kids, and he only made it to the second round. He got out on the word "Quarterback". He forgot the "r" and he knew it, just a little late. But, in all honesty, he spelled it like the mediator pronounced it, because like I said, we're in Texas. It's pronounced more like "Quaterback" than "Quarterback" around here anyway.

You speak the truth! I remember sitting in my 7th grade science class, self-grading a multiple choice (A-E) exam with the teacher calling out the answers and I couldn't tell whether she was saying A or E. They sounded exactly the same!
