We may live approximately 230 miles from the Mexican border. It may be warm nearly all year here. A large percentage of our populace may be Hispanic, and we may have hired a few really good workers who speak Spanish over the last few years to do contract work on our home. I may love to eat Mexican food, and I love me a good jalapeño. I may occasionally visit the market named Super Mercado, because they carry one of my favorite brands and they sometimes have really good sales. I may have taken a few years of Spanish in junior high and high school and I may remember the equivalent of the days of the week, the months of the year and how to count to 100. My kids may be learning small amounts of Spanish from school, but after this week, I think they may need to learn a little more quickly, because I'm going to need to have them translate my mail for me...

Basically, it's all in Spanish, and where there is English it's after the Spanish. C'mon! We live in AMERICA! I'm tired of buying cereal and having to read the box in Spanish. I'm tired of my kids coming home with flyers from school and having to turn the paper over to read it in English. I absolutely think that knowing more than one language is awesome, and I absolutely encourage my kids to learn whatever they can. But, if I moved to France, Russia, or Germany I would absolutely learn the language before I went, and I would NOT expect the country to print everything out in English for me.
Blah....sorry. Now, back to your regularly scheduled ranting...

Amen, Sista!
Thank you. :)
I'm offended by the flyer, not you. Jeez. Spanish first? Come on.
I totally agree with you!! What is McDonald's problem?? They have a few billboards around Ogden that are the same way. Makes me angry! Cheerios had a book in the box a bit ago that was a spanish book. I was so surprised. Come on, we are an english speaking country!!
Danielle, I almost brought up the Cheerios books, but decided against it. We received two books from Cheerios boxes that were in spanish.... so, I guess my kids can translate my mail and my cereal boxes...
I'm tempted to boycott McDonalds, but what would my once-a-month habit really take away from there? Nothing...
Argh!
Amen! I can't stand when people show up in the ER and ask in disgust "You don't speak Spanish?" and roll their eyes. So sorry to have put you out, I thought the official language of this great country you chose to live in was ENGLISH!
