Our Little Field Trip

Every once in awhile I remember that we don't live in total desolation. Please help me remember that when you come and visit. Did you catch that? WHEN you come and visit, not IF. I promise I can find things to do that don't involve watching me fold laundry, watching the dust blow, and watching squirrels and birds chase each other (even though that last one is actually pretty fun).

Plus, when you come and visit you get to spend time with four of the cutest kids EVER. And I'm not partial or anything.

When my mom came a few weeks ago I determined before she left we had to do something outside that didn't involve walking around the block, jumping on the trampoline, or watching the kids trying to ride scooters, roller blades and bicycles. So, I googled it, and what do you know? There are things to do here.

Unfortunately, this was a Monday, and we really do live in desolation on Mondays, apparently. So, keep that in mind WHEN you visit...Not so much to do here on Mondays. We'll do laundry that day.

Anyway, the Sibley Nature Center IS open on Mondays, and it's free, so double win for them. Lincoln and Savannah have both been there for field trips and they both loved it, so I figured it was Cael and Landry's turn.

Please, enjoy the pics...

Landry, in all her sassy glory

One of the rooms with hundreds of books on West Texas, plus lots of taxidermied animals and some in formaldehyde...it was kind of a creepy room, let's be honest

More of the creepy room

Cael playing with a jar that had a snake in formaldehyde...again, kind of creepy. See that cabinet next to him? I'm guessing it was locked, but I didn't even dare try to open it. I was afraid some funky dead animal was just waiting to scare the crap out of me.

Rocks, leaves, bugs and a snake skin

Water! Seriously, the kids couldn't stay away from the water. It had thousands of little guppies swimming in it, and it wound around the grounds.

The Sibley Nature Center has acres of trails leading through native West Texas vegetation. West Texas vegetation pretty much consists of mesquite and dirt. With a few yucca plants and cacti thrown in for good measure.

It was a long trek across the dusty grounds to some shade.

Beautiful Landry

Handsome Cael

Looking south to downtown

Looking north at ...West Texas

Waiting for water to drip out of a pipe into the water hole, and yes, the wind was blowing, and yes, Cael totally got nailed in the forehead with a drop of water right about the time the camera took this picture. And yes, it was awesome.

Here they are waiting for another drop of water. See, we TOTALLY have things to do here!

Oh, and we give great hugs too...so come and visit!
