The Long, Flat Road Again

On the road again,
I just can't wait to get on the long, flat road again...

We just got back from the long, long 16 1/2 road trip from Utah to Midland. I'm so glad we don't live any further into Texas than we do. The kids are good travelers, and Shane was there to help drive on the way home, but that's just a lot of road and most of it is flat and dry. Here are some highlights from the drive there and back...ENJOY!

The McDonald's (or as Cael and Landry call it, Old McDonald's) in Roswell, NM. Roswell is all about the aliens and UFO's and McDonald's play place is apparently the landing place for a spaceship...at least that is what the kids think. It's unique and it's where we grab breakfast on our way to Utah. Every. Single. Time.

Roswell is also the winner for the cheapest gas on the drive out. $3.01 for unleaded when I drove through and when Shane and his parents came out a week and a half later it was under $3. Plus, when we were at Sam's filling up the attendant asked if he could pray over our travels. I nodded, and agreed, thinking he would take his prayers back to his booth, but he began praying right there, with the gas pumping... our travels were blessed that day.

This is what the road looks like in Texas, and New Mexico.

This is what the road looks like in Southeastern Utah. Pretty much the same, but there are a few hills in the distance. Colorado is the same as well.  Four states and very few hills/canyons...

Driving home with kids sacked out all over the place.

Landry and Cael took a 3 hour nap on the way home, those long drives sure can be tiring...

Finally back to Texas (sorry, took this with my phone camera and missed the Texas State sign by about 1/2 a second...this is the first glimpse of Texas soil in 3 weeks. Thanks to a little rain the drive back was greener than I've seen in awhile.

The horizon may not get any flatter than in West Texas, but the sunsets don't get much prettier either.

Oh, and Snowflake...good old Snowflake. She may barely tolerate me on a good day, particularly if Shane is around, but when I went to pick her up from my sister-in-law's house she practically mauled me with kisses and wouldn't stay in the back of the car...she kept creeping closer to the front the whole way home. I guess she missed us too!

I'm not sure how to take that Snowflake. :) I swear we were good to her! lol...even though she did dig about 5 holes in our backyard. Its probably a good thing for our soil though. Glad your back!
