Fishin' and Thinkin' and Playin' and Chummin'

Shane and I took the family down to Pearland for a quick weekend away. Clint and Shane made arrangements months before to do a little gulf fishing out of Galveston. They chartered a boat with Captain Cody and we took the kids out for some fishing in the gulf. Karen was awesome to volunteer to stay with the younger kids. She's the ultimate host - amazing chef and a willing babysitter!

Lyndon out fished all of us on what turned out to be a very fun, but very slow day of fishing. Captain Cody said that the winds had shifted the afternoon before and muddied up the water which always makes it harder for the fish to see the bait. We still had fun, but the waters were a little choppier and muddier than normal.

A wrecked cigar boat, a very popular landmark to fish around. It ran aground about 50 years ago.

Shane enjoying the morning.

Sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico.

Lincoln and Savannah enjoy the salt spray.

Another sunrise picture.

Boat's wake.

A jetty.

Shane and one of his catches. The fish we took home were speckled trout and they were the most delicious trout I've ever had. They didn't taste fishy at all, and were more moist than other types of fish. The salt water did them good!

Uncle Clint rocking his catch.

This is what happens when you spend a late night up talking with cousins, then have to get up super early, drive an hour to board a boat on somewhat rough waters...

Another one of Shane's catches. A brown eel. It was disgusting looking and our captain didn't even want it aboard. He cut it and the hook loose over water. Funny thing: I'd asked Captn. Cody earlier what the most interesting thing he'd ever caught was, and he answered, 'a brown eel'. So, when Shane caught one a few hours later it was hilarious to see just how nasty Cody thought they were.

Dolphins. I looked up and saw this and immediately thought of sharks. Then I saw them jump and realized they were dolphins and there was a whole pod of them. It was really fun to watch them jump and play together.

Shane and I...so glad that we didn't the morning chasing Cael and Landry around the boat. We'll do this again though, because we had so much fun. We'll have to take them when they're not a hazard.

Deserted production platform.

Shane and his catch of the day...just kidding, this is the bait we were fishing with.

Driving out of Galveston. See all the water and the green? Wow!
