I Am Lucky

I am so lucky that I have been blessed with a great family, biological or not.  Blood doesn't make a family, love does.

I've been blessed with four healthy, happy children who love me, burnt food, ornery moods and all.

I've been blessed with a husband* who takes care of me and the kids and still manages to laugh while doing so.  Who honors his priesthood and who can remodel a house singlehanded.  (*well, make that two, one from the past who helped me figure out who I am and what I want, and one who takes care of me and who I get to have for eternity, who loves me for who I am).

I've been blessed to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and have the blessings of the Plan of Salvation.  I've never doubted the truthfulness of the gospel, but I am grateful for many opportunities to strengthen my beliefs and testimony.

I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had to live in America, the land of Freedom.  I've been able to choose to get an education, buy a house, have children, and raise them as I choose.  I'm able to practice my religion and vote.

AND, I'm extremely grateful that I have a heart that allows me to be sad for others trials, and happy for others joys.  I'm lucky to have the capacity to feel emotion, even if it stinks to feel so low sometimes, even for things that you have no control over.  But, perhaps by seeing other people going through unimaginable trials, you can gain more insight, and more empathy, and more understanding of beliefs that you've known all along...just maybe.

What a wonderful post. I loved that line blood doesn't make a family, love does. You are so right. I need to work on being grateful to feel emotion.
