My 'A' Game

I haven't been my best lately. Haven't brought my 'A' game, if you will. Only to the blogging world, because at home I've still got it. Still churning out homemade cookies and cakes, you know, fattening us all up for the long winter. Still meeting with teachers, cleaning the house, doing the laundry...we create mountains of laundry, how about you?

Then last week I looked at the calendar. It was Wednesday, the 28th of October...you know what I thought? "Crap, by now I've usually solidified costumes, decorated the house, carved a dozen pumpkins and planned the Halloween dinner. I've got company coming in and a sick kid...I haven't even figured out where I put the decorations from Halloween last year. Shoot..."

Then I figured it out, I work really well under pressure.

Ballerina who did pirouettes all day long. (it was cold, don't judge the outfit on the layers)

Jester who somehow talked his fever, cough and body aches to take a vacation about 18 hours before he needed to go trick or treating.

Doggie (or in her language, Goggie) who instinctively knew what to do with the plastic pumpkin bucket we shoved in her hands.

Frog who really couldn't figure out what the big deal was with everyone dressing up but enjoyed the fact that it was a candy free for all.

The pumpkins I churned out Wednesday night after my epiphany. It just wouldn't be Halloween without pumpkin slime up to your elbows.

The Halloween dinner was a re-creation of last years, see it here since I didn't take pictures this year.

My 2009 Halloween regrets? I didn't even get one picture of my husband in his prison guard costume with a handlebar mustache...or me in my 9-year old's soccer uniform being myself as a soccer mom. Such a shame, because those pictures would have been worth a thousand words.

Great pictures, Brooke.

The kids looked so cute in their costumes!

I had the same panic feeling last week. I wasn't quite "on it" this year, but I don't think the kids took notice. I just keep telling myself I'm saving all my energy for Christmas!

Well, you beat me! I didn't even get pics of my kids this year and definitely nothing fancy on the table on Halloween. Your day looks like it was so much fun and your kids are just adorable.

Oh Brooke. I miss you. I laughed until I cried while reading your funny musings. And then I cried because I miss you! I love you, sweetheart! Count me as an ardent fan of your blog,

Nice work. Never plan ahead again. :-) That spider pumpkin is my favorite.
