I Can't Be The Only One...

who can't eat food when it's not the color it's supposed to be. Like green pancakes on St. Patrick's day - and I'm the one who made them. I know in my mind they'll taste the same, but I just can't convince my taste bud/brain connection that they really do.

I also can't eat the funky colored goldfish crackers and that really nasty looking purple and green ketchup from a few years back. Some things aren't supposed to be anything but natural looking.

One exception (because I know there's an exception to every rule) is the green eggs and ham that serves as our St. Patty's day dinner every year. The ham is not green, the filling on the deviled eggs is green and some of it is relish. Plus you're already mixing a bunch of stuff into the mix anyway, so what's a little green food coloring?

So, conclusion is...

green eggs and ham = good
purple and green ketchup, multi colored goldfish crackers, and anything that makes your kids poop fluorescent colored = not good

I tried green eggs and ham a couple of years ago with my kids. I think they all made their own pb&j instead. That tradition was quickly nixed.

I can never bring myself to eat the green macaroni and cheese. I know there is already tons of yellow dye in it, but green just seems wrong.
I'll never forget the time Lyndon was so concerned about his blue "bowel movement" after attending a spiderman bithday party. Bluest cake I've ever seen.

I made green pancakes last St. Patrick's day and my kids refused them. This year we had white pancakes.
