I think I'm in some sort of a time warp. I close my eyes for a second and a week has passed by. I look at my house and it's frustrating to see what I'm supposed to be doing, look at my homework and see part of what I've done, and look at my kids and think dang, if only days could be 36 hours long. I might just be able to get everything done if that were the truth.
So today's post is among other things (like a break from homework) going to be validation that I am getting things done. So, some things I've done this week are:
- Showered at least a few times, cut 30 toenails, cut 30 fingernails and bit 10 fingernails, (I know, it's a nasty, bad habit that occurs when I'm stressed)
- Actually did my hair and received compliments on it because it's been so long
- Kept four kids alive, including changing diapers before they got too soggy and feeding tummies before they got too hungry/grumpy
- Took one child to the doctor, spent more than two hours and likely more than two hundred dollars to be told, "well, the strep test came back negative, and so did the flu test, but he's got a raging ear infection, which is probably viral...but we'll give you the antibiotic anyway, because you look like a crazed lunatic..." (kidding about the crazed lunatic part, I had showered and my eye was just barely starting to tick from being in a doctor's office for so long)
- Shane and I ripped out our side deck/pergola and he's currently working on replacing the deck with a nice, stable, non-rotten landing with stairs. The demolition is always more fun than the construction. And I'm super excited to have an actual exit from our upstairs since we currently have two upstairs doors and no actual exits. Plus, the deck was hopeless anyway, I'm not much into hanging out on a deck that looks directly into the surrounding backyards, which happens when you're the only two-story house on your block
- Purchased a ticket for myself to go to a wedding in Idaho. Super excited for the wedding, super not excited to fly by myself. Super excited to see some family, super not excited to miss the two soccer games, one football game, Primary program practice and the Primary program, plus the school Fall festival. Super excited that I have the world's best husband and mother-in-law who are going to cover me while I'm gone
- Oh, and I've done some homework too. I may or may not have faked it through several English essay/journal writings, started a 10 page research paper on a yet to be determined topic, gotten 107% on a math test, and tentatively decided to go to school again next semester. Here are my two most favorite assignments from this week. One: we were assigned to create a color wheel out of anything, absolutely anything. It just needed to represent all of the primary and secondary colors. Two: we were assigned to do a photo essay entitled "My Town". If you're interested in seeing my work, you can go here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brookesteffenssnow/ to see them. Feel free to comment on them, it always cheers me up.
So, that's most of my week. We're on the mend thanks to lovely antibiotics, Lincoln's eye is almost color free, Savannah's really starting to understand soccer, Lincoln's understanding football, we're almost back to having something outside our master bedroom exterior door, the weather's been phenomenal, it's almost time to start carving pumpkins(!!!!), I've actually decorated a little for Halloween, the kids know what they're going to be for Halloween and only one requires work from me, and we love each other. A lot. Even when the kids are glaring and murmuring to each other.

Brooke, how do you do it all? I'm in awe at your beautiful photography! I LOVE the 25 pics of purple--it just stood out for some reason. Oh, and that picture of you is gorgeous!!! Can I just tell you that I'd much rather be potty training than doing a 10 page research paper--that's how much I don't want to be in school. I can't even begin to imagine having to study amidst all of the kid craziness, you must be exhausted and I think you deserve the mother of the year award-simply for remembering to clip fingernails:) Keep up the good work!
By the way, where in Idaho is the wedding--sure would be fun to see you.
Yay! So glad to know that you are alive :) We're so excited to see you!!!!
I really don't know how you do everything. And you do it well. Have a great time in Idaho!
