Chickens and Motorcycles

We thought we were going to lose one of our chickens a couple of weeks ago. We think it was Bertha, or maybe it was Madge...

She stopped laying, she got all lethargic, she lost her cluck.

Shane joked about chicken soup, and I may or may not have threatened to turn us all vegetarian if he ever said that again.

Turns out she had a cold. So I guess chicken soup doesn't work for all of God's creatures, but antibiotics do. She's back to her old self again, actually she's better than ever. She now roosts on Shane and I every time we go out to the coop. Let's be honest, it's weird enough they all let us pet them, but roosting on our shoulders? Seriously weird.

But, during the 7-10 days that we were nursing her back to health by administering oral antibiotics and keeping her in the dog carrier in the garage we got really close to her. She's enough a part of our family that the kids may have actually cried when they thought she was going to move on to the big organic coop in the sky...

Then yesterday I realized exactly how they felt.

Shane sold my baby...

and I may have cried a little bit. Even after he promised to buy another one when we actually have a chance to ride them again. And unfortunately I can't administer antibiotics to make it better. Dangit...

A motorcycle? One you were attached enough to to induce tears at it's loss? Awesome!

Did you know that both of my parents have and love their motorcycles?

My condolences. :(

But I'm glad that the chicken survived.
