You'd think after three days of snow and freezing cold temperatures my babies would have figured out that the white stuff falling from the sky and covering the ground is cold.
But, EVERY SINGLE TIME we walk out the door Landry reaches down to touch the snow, grabs a handful, tries to eat it before it melts, and then starts whining that her hands are cold. And then Cael looks down at his boots and freaks out because they are dirty, with snow - the same snow I just told him to avoid walking in.
Every. Single. Time.
Good news?
The electric company has been doing rolling blackouts for the last two days and we've managed to keep our house fairly warm despite the occasional power outage. Plus, our pipes haven't broken, just frozen. In fact the shower wouldn't drain yesterday morning until the hot water melted the ice in the drain.
The local news last night consisted of 15 minutes of weather related news, and then 10 minutes of weather forecasts, which included more than two newscasters stating the fact that it's really, really cold outside. It didn't consist of much crime or drama at all. Which means that the criminals are really, really cold too, and therefore their motivation to commit crimes has decreased. That or the newscasters are as stupified by this cold front as everyone else, and thus they couldn't donate any brain cells to finding actual newsworthy stuff.
School has been on a delayed start the last two mornings, which means that we got to take advantage of the fact that our children will sleep in on days that they have to go to school, but refuse to sleep in on the weekends. Problem solved - delay school two hours and they'll sleep in until 7:30. Yay.
The dogs have figured out that if they sit at the back door and whine and shiver they will be let in. And, the chicken hasn't figured out it's cold outside, as she's been quarantined to her chicken spa and has continued to lay an egg a day just like a good girl.
The hot cocoa supply is holding out marvelously. That's the best news of all.

You know titling it "clever comments" only intimidates most of us because I know I won't be "clever." However, I know what you mean. My semi-outdoor cat, the one who stays out all night, is having a really hard time with the cold and hates the snow. Somehow he's holding it now, for three days. And taking out his frustration on the indoor cat. Come on sunshine and warm weather, where are you? Which reminds me, I like your new header!
Frozen pipes?? That stinks!! I thought my kids were the only ones that refuse to sleep in on weekends. It drives me nuts!! I'm so sorry that you are enduring the winter weather as well, thank goodness that your supply of hot cocoa is holding out! Oh, Cael and Landry's response to the snow is so cute, that's exactly what my babies do only Kamryn pretty much refuses to go out at all. She HATES being cold. I bundle Porter up and he goes out for approximately 2 1/2 minutes and he's back pounding on the door to come in. Good luck! Hey, this is off the subject, but, I really need some organization tips from you. You just seem like you have it all together and things run so smooth at your house. Any ideas would be appreciated!
You make me laugh. :) Hang in there... you know the ground hog said an early spring and you can count on that! (He's right about 50% of the time.)
