I should get an award (at least from my kids) for being the best mom ever...so far this Spring Break (or the one day we've been home from our Houston vacation)....
I've kept the tv off. (yes, except for the brief 1/2 an hour when I was babysitting my nephews and one of them was completely inconsolable...I did resort to PBS and Sid the Science Kid. It didn't work.)
I've let them play with sidewalk chalk, not completely new, but when you mix sidewalk chalk, sweaty kids (it's really warm outside) and a really dirty backyard, you're just asking for a mess...and you know how much I love messes.
We've blown bubbles and made soapy bubble sculptures.
We made "elephant toothpaste" or for the smarter people, we made a chemical reaction from hydrogen peroxide, dish soap and yeast...found here.
We've made the pipe cleaner crystals...found here.
We've made plans to make silly putty...found here.
We've baked "hard boiled" eggs...I'd include a link, but they were not worth it. I'll stick to my easy to peel, easy to make actual boiled "hard boiled eggs" from now on.
We've jumped on the trampoline, ridden bikes, ridden scooters, ridden roller blades, and apparently played on the wooden deck stairs which means we also removed a nice splinter from a frantic, hysterical four year old. (who after kicking and screaming and fighting for 10 minutes, and being pinned down to the table by me, finally received relief from the removed splinter and said..."that didn't hurt at all"...)
We've (well, I've) spot cleaned a house neglected by vacation and kids...well, not neglected by kids, maybe "overloved" by kids. This does not mean it's spotless, hello, there are four kids living here and playing here. I spot cleaned, the parts of the house people see...and yet, I've not yet finished the unpacking or the laundry...dang it.
On the list to do...besides making the silly putty...
baking cookies and taking them to people we know
having a few friends over to play
head to the duck pond and park for a day out
take pictures of the kids to update the walls?

And the Mother of the Year Award goes to.............Brooke Snow! Holy cow, you are a nice mom, silly puddy...my kids don't even know what it is. SOunds like a fun, messy, crazy, busy break!
We also made ooblek and we're going to be painting nails...
I hate messes, but the kids are only kids once and I NEVER do anything with them like this. I figure I'd better make up for it this week. :)
I think so far, Ooblek has been the winner (for 75% of the kids). It's probably my favorite too, but the silly putty was so easy to make, and it's supposed to last in the fridge...
ha ha ha...I even spelled silly putty wrong...I should get an award for that!:)
