We had the amazing opportunity to get together with a lot of the Teichert family to ride the Heber Creeper from Heber to Vivian Park and back. I'd never had the chance to ride the train, but had seen it chugging up and down the canyon my whole life. It was so fun to ride the train with all of the kids, as well as have the chance to visit with family members that we miss so much. The train was adequately named a creeper as it crept down and up the canyon with the speed of a turtle, and it was super hot because the old locomotives aren't equipped with air conditioning, but I'd do it again in a second. Being able to see the canyon from the opposite side, seeing Deer Creek and Provo River from different vantage points, and seeing Cael's face while riding the train made the slow, hot journey completely worth it.
Some of the family visiting on the train...
One of their old engines...
Cael and Landry waiting to get started...
Lincoln and Savannah ready to go...
One of the train robbers (they act out a train robbery on most summer trips, they also do a haunted train ride for Halloween, and a Polar Express trip for Christmas)...
Cael was chatting with this armed bandit from the window, the guy was so great, but finally he broke character and came to the window to give Cael a high five before heading on his way...
This girl was amazing! She would walk from car to car fiddling for tips. She was really talented, had a great repertoire and was able to stand and play without falling from the bumps of the trip. It inspired me to pull out the few fiddle songs I have and practice them up a little...
Cael probably enjoyed the trip more than anyone else. He loves machines, but trains particularly. This was his face for a lot of the trip...
After the train ride we met at Robin's house for lunch and visiting. Her house is perfect for family get togethers. The adults congregated around the food in the living room, dining room and kitchen, and the kids headed down to the basement for movie watching and game playing...
I grew up so close to my Teichert cousins. We were like brothers and sisters. I spent weeks at Robin's house in the summer, and sleep overs with cousins was something we all looked forward to. After Grandma and Grandpa passed I was worried that each family would just get involved with their own growing families and we wouldn't have chances to get together as a Robert Teichert family anymore. I am so glad that Diane spear headed this fun day, and I'm so grateful to my mom for helping us get there. I love this family so much!
