If you live in or visit Utah and haven't visited the Ogden Treehouse, take my advice and go. Seriously. Had I known about it while living there I would have frequented it more often - (read: at least once). It was one of the cheapest activities we did while in Utah, and most definitely one of the funnest.
Nestled in Ogden, right directly across from the Ogden LDS Temple, it's a great little childrens museum. The theme of the Treehouse is books, like a gigantic library full of non-rentable books. However, the focus isn't the books, it's the activities surrounding the books. For example, books about China, Germany, Great Britain and Mexico in small, child-size houses decorated like houses from those places with fun activities in them for the kids to do. In the Mexican house we made tissue paper flowers, in the Great Britain house we solved a mystery. There was an area about trains, with books and toy trains/tracks for the kids to play with. There was a miniature school house with black boards for the kids to play school. A dinosaur area with tracings and rubbings, puzzles and of course dinosaur books. An african safari area where you could make feather neclaces, an aquarium with lots of shells, a sound room with all sorts of percussion instruments for the kids to play, a lego area, a medical area with microscopes and x-rays, a history area to learn about past presidents and a photo-op for the kids to pretend to be President. The funnest area for my kids was the medieval area, with royal costumes to wear, a throne to sit on, and for Lincoln - a gigantic chess board. They had several chess sets ranging from pieces that were 6-8 inches tall to a set that we played that had pieces that were as tall as my legs!
In every area there were a lot of hands-on activities for the kids, art activities, and books to go along with each themed area. We could have easily spent all day in the treehouse, which was named for the gigantic "treehouse" in the middle of the museum. We'll definitely head back there next time we're in Utah!

I have loved reading through your updates on the trip...I'm really sorry that I didn't make it down to see you and the kids, but promise to next year!!
We love the Treehouse too! It is fun. It is nice my parents live so close to it.
I had no idea it even existed! Thanks for the tip.
