The Saturday before we left Utah we decided to get one more hike in. This hike involved no caves at the end, which we had to explain to Savannah several times before she accepted the invitation to come. 'Y' mountain is located right above Brigham Young University. It was a hike I've been on dozens of times. It's beautiful, fairly easy and you have a breath-taking view of the valley when you're up there. It's a pretty simple hike, 1.2 miles up - 1.2 miles down on a hardened path. It's steep at times, but I've taken both Lincoln and Savannah at three years old and they've managed with just a little prodding. I say all of this, but apparently my lungs acclimated to Texas air faster than my body and mind did...I was sucking air halfway up, even though my legs didn't hurt at all!

Utah...part 7
When we reached the top of the 'Y' we sat and chatted with everyone for a little while, took pictures, snacked on snacks. There was a nice little sprinkling coming down that made it refreshingly nice outside.
Then Shane decided to be Superman...duh, duh, duh! Kidding, he remembered that when they used to hike the 'Y' they would continue to head up and over and around the mountain and come down Rock Canyon. Lincoln wanted to go, Chris decided to follow and Grandpa Snow, Natalie, Savannah and I decided to be smart and head home. I told Shane I'd pick him up in 4-5 hours, he promised his cell phone worked up there, and we headed back down the mountain to the safety of the BYU Creamery for amazing ice cream cones.
About the time we were finishing our ice cream the rain really started to come down and I figured Shane, Lincoln and Chris were probably swimming in the mountains somewhere. I called to check on them and found that he did not have service on the mountain, in the rain...thankfully he's an Eagle Scout, right? What's their motto? Be Prepared? Right.............
So anyway, 5 hours later I picked up 3 completely soaked, worn out, sore, itchy (they think it was stinging nettle and they hiked in shorts...remember Eagle scouts - BE PREPARED), dead tired men/boy and we had a lovely picnic at Rock Canyon park. The story from the other side of the mountain is this...rainy, cold, overgrown, soaking wet, long and pretty (as you can see from the pictures in the collage, the pretty parts were from the other side of the mountain).
And, the only one out of Chris, Shane and Lincoln who didn't have sore muscles the following day? Lincoln. 6 miles over a mountain, plus 1.2 miles up and he proved how much of a trooper he really is!

Wow! What an ordeal. Lincoln is such a tough kid! Kids are so resiliant and we adults are just big wimps. Anyway, the hike sounded like a ball and the pictures were so great. You really are great with the camera!
HOly tough family! YOu guys rock. We have actally never even hiked up there. I am a huge wussy. I think I would like to do it though.
I've never been to the Y. My kids have been asking to go though. And that is a CRAZY long hike in the rain!
